While not known to be a major urban metropolis like Atlanta or Birmingham, Mobile Alabama does have large tracks of real estate available, and realtors to manage and sell it. Due to the availability of comparatively inexpensive beach front real estate, Mobile is in fact home to a large number of developments and offers extensive options in terms of residential, commercial and industrial real estate. This gives potential homeowners lots of options to choose from, and the competitive real estate market helps keep home prices low when compared to other beachfront communities.

Mobile has a very wide bay area, and is near Gulf Shores, Alabama’s most popular beach destination. The availability of so much property, in conjunction with relatively minimal use, has helped to keep land prices affordable. This is why Mobile is home to so much heavy industry, as it is not only a major industrial port, it has access to large amounts of industrial land with waterfront access to allow rapid loading and unloading of cargo. Even industrial construction that is near the water benefits from an extensive array of rails and roads to permit raw materials and finished goods to be moved quickly.

The less industrialized areas of Mobile are also attractive for their beaches, which are shallow and made of white sand. Because it is part of the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile is home to very modest waves with only occasional bad weather. Mobile is only rarely hit by hurricanes, and by the time they reach the region, they have generally dissipated most of their power. There are a number of tourist communities in the area, and beachfront property ranging from luxury homes to simple beach houses and condos is available. Mobile is thus very popular among those looking for a summer house, or a timeshare.

Mobile also has some commercial areas, especially in the service industry. The many tourists and industrial workers in the area are in constant need of places to eat and places to stay, making Mobile an excellent spot for those looking to start a hotel, restaurant, or other business. The relatively inexpensive nature of the land allows for simple, inexpensive buildings that expand horizontally to be built, removing the cost and expense of tall office buildings. The fact that most of the tourist traffic frequents beachside roads also means that a large number of strip malls have been constructed, opening up many options for small businesses.
