Commercial
There is no better spot on the Gulf Coast to purchase commercial real estate than in Mobile, Alabama. Because it’s a 300 year old port city, there’s already a lot of different cultures in the area, making it ideal for businesses of all kinds to succeed; yet the city is fully southern, and the way people act there is proof of it. People are always friendly, and local businesses thrive more by providing better services rather than quick services.
Business in Mobile is driven quite strongly by the tourism industry. From the annual Azalea Trail Run to Mardi Gras, there’s always something of note going on in Mobile.
Mardi Gras is a big deal in Mobile, and results in many families coming in for the few weeks of Mardi Gras. Although New Orleans has a raunchier version of the Carnival, Mobile is where Mardi Gras was invented, and where the entire event is a family affair.
Mobile also gets a lot of fishing tourists during the Mobile Bay Jubilee, a natural phenomenon which happens at least once a year: during the Jubilee, crabs, shrimp, flounder and other fish rush to the surface of the water, making fishing a matter of only putting out one’s hands and waiting for the fish to jump into them. Some other locations have experienced Jubilees from time to time, but Mobile Bay is one of only two places in the world (and only one in the United States) where this event happens with regularity, and so gets almost all tourism for this event.
Mobile is also at the intersection of two major interstate highways, making it a prime hub for people to stop even while they’re on route to another city. Any travelers headed to Florida from the Western or Northwestern United States have to go through Mobile to get there, whether they take I-10 from California or I-65 from Chicago.
Purchasing commercial real estate in Mobile, Alabama is definitely one of the better deals you can get in today’s volatile market. Compared to other Gulf Shores markets, property in Mobile—especially in downtown Mobile—has an ideal tax structure for incoming businesses. Commercial property taxes for the municipal area are geared entirely to attracting new business. The prices are also strongly competitive with nearby cities of similar size.
If you decide to build your business in the city of Mobile, be sure to also spend some time exploring the city for yourself. Mobile has been under six different flags in 300 years, and has a lot of history to enjoy.
